The Cinema Night organized by Sarajevo UNESCO City of Film for the first time took place on 28th December 2021, symbolically on the date when the Lumiere brothers held the first cinema screening in the world in Paris in 1895.

This holiday season, the Cinema Night event, as a gift to the audience, for one night opened the doors of Sarajevo cinemas for citizens and visitors of Sarajevo to enjoy films for free at cinemas Cineplexx, CineStar, Igman – MMC Ilidža, Meeting Point, Novi Grad and Valter.

Cinemas offered a wide range of films for all generations. More than 3,500 people watched close to 30 different films for free from 5 pm to midnight.

“Our cinematography needs special attention, it needs to be developed in the future. This is one way to emphasize it. In addition to the Sarajevo Film Festival, we need to create content that focuses on film 365 days a year,” said Sarajevo City Mayor Benjamina Karic.

“We are very pleased with the realization of this project and grateful to the audience for showing interest in film in such large numbers and for supporting film art and cinema culture. We hope that the Cinema Night in Sarajevo will become tradition and that we will soon realize new ideas and new projects “, said Sarajevo UNESCO City of Film Project Manager Nataša Kučera.
