Films shown at the anniversary: DER TOTENTANZ (1912) and KRUSTE (2023)

Five years ago, Potsdam got announced as a UNESCO CITY OF FILM and is since then an active part in the UNESCO Creative Cities network with 350 cities around the world.

Therefore POTSDAM celebrates on 29th of October 2024 with an evening for everyone at Filmmuseum Potsdam!

For this occasion, two films will be screened, that represent the long film history and tradition in our city. The very first film production in Potsdam, DER TOTENTANZ from 1912, will be shown on the big screen accompanied by the sounds of the cinema organ. KRUSTE, a short film from 2023 by students of the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, which recently won a student Academy Award, will be shown afterwards. A conversation with the film team and a brief discussion with Michael Fürst (Head of Filmmuseum Potsdam), Bernd Rubelt (City of Potsdam), Sigrid Sommer (Head of marketing at the City of Potsdam) and Lisa Nawrocki (Focal Point of UCCoF Potsdam) about the strength of the film city, will complete the programme in the cinema before moving on with a get-together.

The programme shows, that filmhistory and prodution in Potsdam goes back more than 110 years. We are looking for to many more years as a film city and as part in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network with the strong international exchange and partnership with embedding of the Sustainable Developement Goals in seven creative fields.

Speaking of anniversaries, Filmuniversity Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF celebrates 70 years since its foundation and 10 years with the university status  in November 2024.
